Many women, for a short period of time, chose to nurture, nourish and protect the developing promise of human life. A ruthless, thankless journey one undertakes that exhausts you socially, emotionally and physically. It’s a strange process to be a home while trying to prepare your own home for the child's arrival. For some this process of nesting involves deep cleaning, furniture building and endless decorating, but for me that energy was directed into creating cathartic imagery. The resulting body of work, Impatiently Waiting, emerged as a visual diary recording the progressing intensity, themes and moods I experienced during the last month of life building. I chose to make the images through light painting because it mimics the painfully slow wait for labor to begin. It requires patience and relies heavily on trial and error to get the desired effect. Much like making a child, you never know quite what you are going to get.
